TRANSGRESSION Low budget serial killer pic.
Director DiPaolo knows his territory: he reputedly worked for
the Brooklyn DA's office, videotaping confessions of real life
killers. Even so, a storyline which has a television journalist
emulating the homicidal maniac she is supposed to be investigating
seems a little far-fetched. Gruesome, morbid fare, not helped
by a cumbersome flashback narrative structure and absurd religious
imagery, but gritty and compelling in its way. NB: UK version
has 7 minutes cut by the censors. Sight and Sound -
January 1996
